Are there counselors/advisors?
You will be assigned an Academic Advisor within your first semester. It is important to consult your advisor every semester to ensure you are taking the right courses and on the right path to graduation. Advisors can also help you handle paperwork such as declaration of a minor or changing a major. The Counseling Center provides personal counseling to all students and is located at the Tine Davis Pool Complex. Their phone numberis (386)226-6035.

What if I want to change my major?
Consult your advisor first. If you decide this move is right for you, you will need to obtain the proper forms from the Records and Registration Office on the second floor of the Student Center Annex and the signatures from the departments.

How much studying will I be doing?
College is quite different from high school. You will find that some courses require more study and preparation time than others. The general recommendation is that you study 2 hours on your own for every hour of class time.

Where can I study?
There are study lounges set up within all campus Residence Halls. The library also provides a number of small group study rooms and plenty of single desks throughout the building to use. Typically students may also use empty classrooms for studying with the permission of the Safety Department. Computer labs are also available throughout campus.

How are college classes different than high school classes?
College classes are quite different than high school classes. No one forces you to attend college classes, so most people in your classes will have a strong desire to be there. College classes often move at a faster pace than high school classes with the understanding that professors have office hours to help you individually.

Do instructors take attendance?
Each instructor has his/her own attendance policy. This will be discussed on the first day of class and printed in the course syllabus. Regardless of the attendance policy, it is highly recommended that you attend all classes. Upperclassmen will tell you that attendance is one of the most important keys to college success.

What if I’m sick and miss class?
Each instructor has a policy for such events. Typically you can get the class notes from classmates and see the instructor during office hours to clarify any information. However, missing events such as exams or presentations must be discussed with your professor as each professor has his/her own policy for these situations. Whenever possible, inform your professor prior to an absence.

What kind of tutorial/mentoring programs are available?

Professors’ office hours
All professors have office hours during which students may meet with them to discuss class issues or get help with class work. These hours are announced to students the first day of class and are at the discretion of the instructor.

Tutor labs
There are numerous tutor labs across campus relating to specific disciplines (Flight, Physics, Math, etc.). These labs are staffed by students and faculty and are free to all ERAU students. The locations and operating hours of these labs are posted on campus shortly after the start of the semester and are also given to all new students at Orientation.
