Meeting Needs of Market Place and Student Interests
The Applied Aviation Sciences Department offers the Bachelor of Science degree
in Homeland Security with areas of concentration which are formed to suit
the interests of the student.
The degree is based upon the needs of the market
place. It combines a solid core designed to meet the University’s General
Education requirements, and the requirements of today’s homeland security employers.
The Homeland Security degree is designed for students interested in obtaining
a strong foundation in the field of Homeland Security, either in occupational
safety and health, aviation / transportation security, or emergency preparation
and response.
The Bachelor of Science degree in Homeland Security requires the successful
completion of 120 credit hours, including general education requirements in
communication, psychology, management, math, and other applicable subjects.
The program combines these requirements with a core of safety- and security-
related courses that are supported by relevant topic-specific courses, along
with a generous amount of general electives and security-based electives.
Strong Foundation in Safety and Security
The safety core courses give you
a foundation in safety and security issues and prepare you to sit for the
qualifying examination given by the American Society for Industrial Security
for certification as a Certified Protection Professional (after meeting
time-in-occupation requirements).
The curriculum is unusually flexible in that it incorporates 9 specified
and 14 open electives, giving you the chance to personalize
your program to exactly match your career goals and special areas
of interest.
