Bachelor of Science in Space Physics

Program Information

The Bachelor of Science in Space Physics program of Embry Riddle's Daytona Beach campus has its area of concentration (AOC) in Space Science, with emphasis on solar system physics, planetary science, and astrophysics. This program draws its strength from existing Physical Sciences faculty expertise in Space Physics.

The interest in Space and the resources to conduct the BSSP program on the Daytona Beach campus are quite significant. One of the strengths of the BSSP program of Daytona Beach is the synergy it has with the successful B.S. in Engineering Physics (BSEP) program. A majority of the courses in BSSP are common to the BSEP program.

Most of our graduates pursue careers in space-related professions. A Master's Degree in Engineering Physics (MSEP) is now available at the Daytona Beach campus for those who desire more advanced studies before embarking on their careers. The B.S. degree program is designed to serve as a strong foundation for the graduates to pursue M.S. degrees and Ph.D. degrees, in diverse areas of science and engineering.

To ensure the quality of the program, the Physical Sciences department hosts a Town Hall Meeting every semester; all the SP and EP students, along with the faculty meet in an open format to discuss the programs.

Another departmental activity includes the Industrial Advisory Board meetings. Most Embry-Riddle programs have Industrial Advisory Boards of some kind. The SP & EP programs share a very active board made up of aerospace industry leaders, government scientists and engineers from NASA, Naval Research Labs, Oak Ridge National Lab, and other organizations. The board visits every spring. The board members enjoy talking to our students and sharing their experiences with them.
