The role of Student Affairs is to complement the total academic mission by offering quality programs and services. The staff promotes a student development philosophy which stresses the holistic approach to co-curricular involvement.

Participating in activities outside of the classroom such as student organizations, volunteer services, recreational activities, and student government, facilitates a sense of belonging, creates new and lasting friendships, and helps prepare you for your future career.

It is our goal to graduate students who are educated, enlightened, productive, and empowered in their college, career, and community.

Good luck as you embark on this exciting time in your life. If you need any assistance during your time here, please feel free to contact me, or any member of the Student Affairs staff.

Sonja Taylor,
Dean of Students

The Dean of Students Office provides oversight and support to these departments within the Division of Student Affairs:

The Dean of Students Office staff is available to assist students with academic and personal problems including private and family emergencies and university withdrawal processing. The office staff oversees all non-academic disciplinary matters and maintains disciplinary records, as well.

Students leaving the University temporarily because of illness, emergency, etc., must bring documentation of such to the Dean of Students Office. Our office can not excuse students from class. However, verification of the reason for the absence will be sent to the appropriate faculty member upon receipt of the required documentation. It is up to the student to work with his/her professor to make up any work and/or discuss missing class.

In addition, the Dean of Students Office also offers a variety of other services including ombudsman and advocacy services; production of  the Student Handbook ; graduation assistance; Substance Awareness Programming; referral service for legal matters; and background investigation resources for security clearance and employment references.

The Dean of Students Office is located in the Student Center, Suite 250. Our regular office hours are from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, EST. Our office main phone number is 386-226-6326.
