Disability Support Services
Priority Registration
This is an internal or departmental policy, which determines the
eligibility for continuing students' advance pre-registration. Students must have a duly documented disability,
be registered with the DSS office and meet one of the following criteria:
--Have a disability that would require
that a class be relocated due to inaccessibility
--Have a disability that necessitates
spacing the student's schedule to allow for
transfer, rest or
medical care between classes
--Have a disability that requires scheduling
of classes for certain times of the day
--Have a disability that requires advance
or extensive preparation for academic courses such
as employment of assistive technology, taping of texts, hiring interpreters, modification
of course materials
--Have a disability-related need, not
referenced above, as deemed appropriate by DSS
Procedure:
(1) Students who are eligible for priority registration will be notified,
in writing, by DSS of the specific dates and procedures for pre-registering
for the upcoming semester. Priority registration will be completed on paper rather than online.
(2) DSS will notify the department
of Registration & Records regarding students' eligibility for
priority registration.
(3) Students should consider making an appointment to meet with their
DSS provider to review their academic progress and develop a tentative
plan to discuss with their academic advisor.
(4) Students may, in addition, authorize DSS to prepare a notation
regarding their disability-related needs to take to the advising
session.
(5) Students must present a completed schedule of courses, signed
by their academic advisor, to the department of Registration & Records
in order to complete their pre-registration.
(6) If a student fails to pre-register during the designated priority
timeframe, he/she must pre-register during the regular appointment
time specified by the department of Registration & Records.
