Computer Labs
Embry-Riddle has four general-use computing labs available
as well as numerous special use computing labs used for
academic courses. All the labs use the latest technology
to give the student a functional learning environment. Whether
they are using a discipline-specific lab as part of a course
or collaborating on a project in a general-purpose lab,
students have access to the computing resources necessary
to complete the task.
General-Use Labs
As a member of the Embry-Riddle community, you have access
to Embry-Riddle computer labs. There are four general-use
computing labs spaced conveniently across campus. During
the fall and spring semesters, these computing facilities
are available 24 hours a day, 5 days a week, and on weekends.
Students can work on projects or homework, research information
on the Internet, or simply send and receive email. Each
lab has a knowledgeable lab assistant who is there to assist
students with computer-related troubles and questions. Students
need to have their Account ID
and Password to use these labs.
Embry-Riddle provides 100 MB of personal network storage to
each student. While lab computers have 250 MB Zip and CD-RW/DVD
drives, the network storage is useful for backups of important
documents such as homework and projects. The drive letter
is F: and can be accessed via the "My Computer" shortcut on
the desktop in any classroom or computer lab.
Student computers have the latest antivirus software
to help protect our students from computer viruses.
Students are encouraged to scan personal disks using
this software. It is advisable to delete emails from
unknown persons that contain attachments. For Account
ID information or help with login problems, go to
the "C" Building computer lab. |
Special-Use Labs
Many discipline specific labs are also available,
including the Flight Tutor Lab, Engineering Design
Labs, Writing Lab, and Weather Lab. These facilities
are available for tutoring as well as research. Discipline-specific
labs are used as part of the course curriculum and
aid hands-on learning directly applicable to the course
study. The Weather and Air Traffic Control Labs are
just a few examples of the many specialized labs available
on campus.

Weather Lab
Weather plays a critical role in aviation, business,
communications, and all areas that affect the
general public. Students have opportunities
to study real-time and case study weather information
by using various data inputs through the Internet
and our own NOAAPORT satellite downlink. The
Weather Center and associated classrooms provide
a state-of-the art research and educational
environment and use a variety of operating systems,
such as Linux, Windows 2000, and Solaris. Applications
such as ArcView and the Unidata
provided suite of software contribute to students'
understanding of weather systems. |
Air Traffic Control Lab
 |
The Air Traffic Control simulators use
the latest software and voice communication
technology. |
 |
| The software enables simulations
of various airspace environments and connects
controllers to simulated pilots in the
next room. |
