Software
Embry-Riddle has a campus license agreement with Microsoft
that provides students with access to Microsoft software, such as
Windows XP Professional Upgrade and Office XP. These titles are
available for checkout through the Hunt Library. Students in the
residence halls can also install Microsoft software directly from
an application server within ResNet by typing "//dbinstall"
from the 'run' prompt of the START button.
In addition to Microsoft software, many other software titles are
available for use in labs and classrooms. These software tools are
used in disciplines such as math, engineering, software development,
and communications. These software titles are Not available on the
ResNet network.
Students learn and use such software for projects
and homework, which enables them to leave Embry-Riddle
with the tools required to be successful in their
future careers. One example is CATIA. This powerful
CAD software, which was used to design the Boeing
777, enables teams of students to design parts, assemblies,
or even complete aircraft. |
CATIA and Nastran can also be used to perform software-based
tests of component parts that serve to illustrate
both strengths and weaknesses of proposed designs.
Many students are also involved with design competitions
that have consistently been awarded top honors. The
CAD software ensures the designs are capable of flight
before working with actual materials. |
