Computer Assistants

Computer assistants (CAs) are students who help troubleshoot connectivity issues with the ResNet for campus residents. CAs work for the Services area of the Information Technology Department.

Computer assistants are trained in most operating systems. A CA does their best to solve the problem with your computer. If a CA cannot fix the problem with your computer, your work order may be given to a customer support technician for further investigation. However, if a CA diagnoses your problem as more than a network issue, the CA will suggest a solution to your problem.

Lab Assistants

Lab assistants are students available in public computing labs to help students with any problems they may experience. Lab assistants are trained in basic computing skills and can help answer questions and solve problems with software and operating systems. They are also knowledgeable on how to operate and fix lab hardware, such as scanners and printers. When students experience problems logging in, or need a password reset, lab assistants are the first contact point.

Customer Support Technicians

Customer support technicians are full-time staff available to solve more complicated problems in the labs and classrooms. For problems with classroom computers, a customer support technician will typically be dispatched to solve the problem quickly. Customer support technicians typically deal with students when they have problems on University systems, such as the Unix server, email, and Netware.

Technical Support for Events

Embry-Riddle provides technical support staff for University-sponsored events. The support may include help and training with operating projectors and audio/video equipment. For events occurring in the IC Auditorium, a technician may be requested to operate the electronics for the duration of the event.
