Message from Interim Dean William Grams

On behalf of the entire faculty, staff, and student body of the College of Arts and Sciences, let me welcome you to our Web site.

Undergraduate Programs

Prospective students will find very engaging programs offered in our college. Our  Engineering Physics program is our largest undergraduate program. In addition, we offer undergraduate programs in Space Physics,  Human Factors Psychology,
Aerospace Studies, and Communication.

Beginning in the fall of 2007 we will be offering a computer science with mathematics program in conjunction with the College of Engineering.

Graduate Programs

We offer graduate programs in Human Factors and Systems and in Space Sciences. Please visit the college department Web sites for more information about the programs or the degrees page with links to summaries about each degree program.

The college consists of four academic departments and three ROTC units.

Academic departments:
Department of Physical Sciences
Department of Mathematics
Department of Humanities and Social Sciences
Department of Human Factors and Systems

ROTC units:
Army
Air Force
Navy
The ROTC units do a great job in developing future leaders for our military branches. Several significant scholarships are available through our ROTC programs.

General Education and College Experience

In addition to our degree programs, our college delivers most of the general education courses on campus, providing vital course work during the first two years for all our students.

Our faculty seek to develop our students' ability to think critically and analytically and to accept responsibility.

In their courses our college students are expected to master the skills that enable them to communicate clearly and to interact with people different from themselves.

We encourage our students to take advantage of the opportunities to pursue cooperative learning experiences, industry internships, study abroad terms, and undergraduate research projects.

Cultural Activities

Our Honors Program provides students with exceptional backgrounds the opportunity to enhance their learning in their programs of study. The Honors Program Distinguished Speaker Series brings stimulating speakers to campus each year.

The faculty of our college are highly involved in research and scholarly activities which often involve undergraduate and graduate students. The Space Physics Research Lab (SPRL), the Atmospheric Physics Research Lab (APRL), and the Laboratory for Advanced Instrumentation Research (LAIR) are operated by our faculty and provide many opportunities for faculty and student research.

To enrich the lives of the faculty, staff, and students, our college sponsors the annual Arts and Letters series. These plays, speakers, and musical programs greatly enhance the cultural climate of our campus and the local community.

The growth of our programs, the diversity of our faculty, and our bright enthusiastic students make our college an exciting and enjoyable place to be.
