Investigation of Thermal Conductivity in Biomass Products

Thermal conductivity plays an important role in several applications related to heat transfer such as refrigeration and air conditioning. Biomass products can be used to provide the energy required to run heat exchangers in engines, boilers and cooling systems.

The aim of this project is to investigate the thermal conductivity of various biomass products. Thermal conductivity of agricultural seeds has been used as engineering parameters in the design of processes and machines for drying, storing, aeration and refrigeration. Thermal conductivity variation with moisture content and temperature for the various biomass products will be investigated and relationship will be presented. The changes in temperature and moisture simulate the climatic changes in the nature and give an idea of the limitations of the biomass products with respect to their thermal conductivity.
