Development of an Aviation Weather Database Highlighting Weather Encounters
  • PI Massoud Bazargan

  • The project team, which includes the FAA's Civil Aerospace Medical Institute, Clemson University, and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, interviewed 26 General Aviation (GA) pilots over a 25-month period.
Development of an SE(3)-based Rigid Body Pose Estimation Scheme for Unknown Moments of Inertia in a Spacecraft
  • The objective of this proposal is the development of an SE(3)-based rigid body pose estimation scheme for unknown moments of inertia in a spacecraft. This estimator design will a) account for translation/rotation coupling, b) avoid singularity or non-uniqueness issues, c) gain high level of convergence, and d)account for system uncertainties.
Diagnosing Kinematic Processes Responsible for Precipitation Distributions in Hurricanes
  • PI Joshua Wadler

  • This project studies physical processes behind why the spatial distribution of different types of precipitation are related to hurricane intensity change.
Discontinuity-driven mesh adaptation method for hyperbolic conservation laws
  • PI Mihhail Berezovski

  • The proposed project is aimed at developing a highly accurate, efficient, and robust one-dimensional adaptive-mesh computational method for simulation of the propagation of discontinuities in solids. The principal part of this research is focused on the development of a new mesh adaptation technique and an accurate discontinuity tracking algorithm that will enhance the accuracy and efficiency of computations. The main idea is to combine the flexibility afforded by a dynamically moving mesh with the increased accuracy and efficiency of a discontinuity tracking algorithm, while preserving the stability of the scheme.

Eaglet: Writing Center and Tutoring Program
  • CO-I Wendi Kappers

  • The purpose of this research is to develop and implement a fully functioning writing center for the Embry-Riddle Worldwide student body. The program will consist of a tutoring service to aid students with grammatically correct writing, forming coherent arguments, and properly addressing the specific objectives of the paper.
EagleVision Classroom (EVC) Best Practices
  • CO-I Wendi Kappers

  • To improve the quality of EVC instruction, an evaluation was initiated of the modality to further investigate the sources of negative feedback and comments; and to identify strategies and best practices gathered from recent EVC faculty and students suggesting improvements needed in the EVC modality.
E-cigarette nicotine deposition and persistence on glass and cotton surfaces
  • PI Cheri Marcham

    CO-I Beverly Wood

    CO-I Evan Floyd

    CO-I Susan Arnold

  • This study examined whether nicotine from electronic cigarette aerosols deposits on indoor surfaces and how long it persists. Using controlled chamber experiments, the research demonstrated that nicotine readily deposits on both glass and cotton surfaces and remains detectable for several days, with substantially longer persistence on cotton materials, indicating potential for thirdhand nicotine exposure.
Eco-Dolphin
  • PI Hong Liu

    CO-I Zakaria Daud

    CO-I Ci Wen

    CO-I Dynamite Obinna

  • Eco-Dolphin is the name of a fleet of adaptive and cooperative automated underwater vehicles (AUVs) that a team of students at ERAU have been working on since January 2012.
Effects of Institutional Responses to the COVID-19 Pandemic on Undergraduate Faculty and Students Across STEM Disciplines
  • PI Chelsea LeNoble

    CO-I Allison Kwesell

  • The project's specific aims are to: (1) examine teaching and learning experiences of undergraduate faculty and students in response to the COVID-19 pandemic; (2) examine the effects of faculty and student reactions on undergraduate STEM teaching and learning; and (3) leverage findings to develop actionable recommendations for colleges and universities to best prepare and protect their faculty, staff, and students and the integrity of undergraduate STEM education.
Efficient Management of Certificate Revocation List (CRL)
  • PI Shafika Showkat Moni

  • Most of the Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) based security and privacy solutions for VANETs use pseudonyms where each vehicle gets multiple identities to improve privacy significantly.
Environmental Analysis of Convective Initiation Events in Central Florida using Integrated Mobile Observation
  • PI Shawn Milrad

    PI Daniel Halperin

  • This research collaboration with the National Weather Service (NWS) Weather Forecast Office Tampa Bay aims to develop an ingredients-based methodology to help improve forecasts of first-strike cloud-to-ground lightning strikes in summer thunderstorms across Central Florida. Results will be used to construct a new forecast tool that will aid NWS forecasters in protecting the region’s life and property from these dangerous lightning events.
ERAU Industrial Math Project: Characterizing Seismic Events through Advanced Data Analytics
  • PI Mihhail Berezovski

    CO-I Lawrence Acchione

    CO-I Nathaniel Arzola Lilly

    CO-I Dhairya Chokshi

    CO-I Jessica Haselwood

    CO-I Paige Rasmussen

    CO-I Nikolaus Rentzke

  • The Signal Processing and Applied Mathematics research group at the Nevada National Security Site, is seeking to collaborate with students at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University to develop advanced data analytics methods for characterizing seismic events in the southwest United States as near-field earthquakes, far-field earthquakes, or non-natural seismic events, using publicly available seismic data.
