Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) impact on flight student performance during an Instrument Approach
PI Robert Thomas
The use of Electronic Flight Bags (EFB) is increasing in aviation. The purpose of this research is to investigate if the use of an Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) during flight courses has an impact on flight student performance. Flight students will be given a series of instrument approaches to fly with paper instrument charts and with an EFB.
Their performance defined by number of deviations observed from altitudes, headings, and other pilot error mistakes as defined in the instrument pilot practical test standards will be measured during the instrument approaches. Finally a comparison between the approaches flown with paper charts and an EFB will be made.
