Extra Flight Time

The market for professional pilots continues to increase, with the demand far outpacing the supply. Embry-Riddle is leading the way by accelerating flight training for new students pursuing a Private Pilot License. Remaining on campus this summer allows you more time in the sky!

Frequent flying means greater proficiency, leading to decreased overall training time and cost!

Here are some amazing opportunities available to flight students this summer:

  • Opportunity to complete flight training activities nearly every day during the Summer B session all the way up to the start of fall classes.
  • Daily, focused approach on flight can lead to savings and enhanced learning.
  • Make significant progress towards earning your Private Pilot License during the summer, allowing you to focus on academic coursework this fall.
  • Bond with peers and flight instructors.

Students who select this model must stay on campus between the end of the summer semester and the beginning of the fall semester.

Medical Certification

Secure First or Second Class Medical reflecting your full legal name. The FAA website includes a list of Aviation Medical Examiners who can administer this exam. Students will not be able to register for a flight course until appropriate medical certification has been secured and provided to the flight department.

Securing your Medical Certificate may take a significant amount of time, so we strongly encourage you to begin the process as soon as you are admitted. Any history of ADHD or ADHD medications will require FAA review and possible further examination to determine if a medical certificate can be issued. The FAA has recently updated policies regarding ADHD diagnosis. Learn more here. You can also find additional information regarding prohibited medications here. To begin the process, start here.

Note: Registration priority is based on a number of factors, including major and citizenship status. Students will want to consider academic preparation, finances, and other obligations and consult with an advisor and/or financial aid counselor to best determine which plan works best for them.

*Some exclusions apply. For more information, please read the Daytona Beach Campus Costs section within the Student Financial Handbook.
