Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act Student Financial Aid Grant Reporting

The Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund II (HEERF II) is authorized by the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2021 (CRRSAA), Public Law 116-260, signed into law on December 27, 2020. On January 17, 2021, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (Embry-Riddle or University) received a Supplemental Award Notification of federal funding for student emergency financial aid grants from the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act in the amount of $3,422,858.

The estimated total number of students at the University eligible to participate in programs to receive emergency financial aid grants is 25,237. Total CRRSAA funds disbursed as of June 10, 2021 was $3,289,241 (2,670 students). These funds provided emergency grants to students which may be used for: 1) any component of the student’s cost of attendance or 2) emergency costs that arise due to coronavirus. Emergency costs may include, but are not limited to, emergency travel, unreimbursed health care expenses (including mental health care), storage/shipping costs, technology needs, child care and personal protective equipment.

In accordance with the U.S. Department of Education’s guidance, Embry-Riddle prioritized students with the greatest financial need with the understanding that not every eligible student will receive funding, and selected students may receive only a portion of their eligible expenses. Grants will be awarded to students for the duration that resources are available.

The University prioritized Pell eligible students and provided: 1) up to $6,000 for on-campus students (i.e., not exclusively on-line) based on financial need as determined by various factors (e.g., FASFA criteria, specific determination of additional exceptional financial need, etc.); and 2) $400 for exclusively on-line students. The University provided non-Pell eligible students up to $1,500 based on financial need as determined by various factors (e.g. CRRSAA Financial Aid Grant Application, etc.).

Under CRRSAA guidelines, in order to qualify for a grant, students must be enrolled in at least one credit hour for the spring or summer 2021 semesters (Daytona Beach and Prescott campuses) or January through June 2021 terms (Worldwide campus) at the time of disbursement. Per federal guidelines, the University is unable to issue CRRSAA funds to international, DACA and undocumented students.
