Project GO Taiwan

Project GO is an initiative sponsored by the Defense Language and National Security Education Office and administered by the Institute of International Education.

Embry-Riddle Project Global Officer (GO) is an eight-week intensive language and cultural immersion program provided to ROTC cadets with a focus in Chinese language and culture. Embry-Riddle is proud to have offered a Project GO program since 2009.

Project GO Taiwan

Location Kaohsiung, Taiwan

Dates June 1 - July 26, 2025
Accommodations Double-occupancy hotel within walking distance of National Kaohsiung Normal University in Kaohsiung, Taiwan

All students in the Chinese language program will be taught by both American and local Taiwanese faculty. Classes will meet four hours each weekday, with tutoring and assignments required outside of the classroom. On selects weekends, students will participate in prearranged weekend trips to the mountains, traditional dwellings, and museums to facilitate immersion into the Taiwanese culture.

There are no prerequisites for Year 1 applicants.

LCH 101 Mandarin Chinese I 3 credits
LCH 102 Mandarin Chinese II 3 credits
LCH 199 Learning Mandarin Through Experiencing Chinese Culture 3 credits

For students who will have completed a minimum of one year of Chinese by May 2025.

LCH 210 Chinese Oral Communication 3 credits
LCH 215 Intermediate Chinese Listening and Reading 3 credits
SS/LCH 299 History of Taiwan 3 credits

For students with a minimum of two years of Chinese language coursework by May 2025 or Chinese language heritage students*.

LCH 309 Intro to Geography and It's Information Systems  3 credits
LCH 310 Speech in Chinese (Public Speaking)  3 credits
LCH 402 Applied Cross-Cultural Communication  3 credits

*Applicants of the advanced program will be interviewed for their language proficiency by the program director.

Financial Details (All programs)

Admitted ROTC students who qualify are guaranteed full scholarships, which include: 

  • Tuition and fees
  • Student lodging (double-occupancy)
  • Meal stipend
  • Travel to/from study location
  • Textbooks
  • Insurance
  • Welcome and farewell dinners
  • Select cultural excursions and activities

Scholarship Restrictions

The scholarship does not include personal spending money, personal travel, and costs for obtaining a passport, medication, and expenses for dependents. 

During the program dates, including weekends, Project GO does not allow its scholarship recipients to leave the host country.

Non-ROTC students are invited to apply to this program, but the Project GO scholarship is open only to ROTC students.

Monetary Incentive

Check with your respective military branch to learn more about the financial benefits available for studying a critical language. 

Application Information

All applicants must use the Project GO central application system to apply. Please go to Project GO to apply. In addition to completing the application, students will be asked to submit a university transcript, a letter of recommendation from an ROTC officer, and a letter of recommendation from a language instructor. Be sure to ask your commanders and instructors to write recommendations early in the process. Many campuses have staff dedicated to helping scholarship applicants with their essays. Check with your Prestigious Awards and Fellowships office to see what resources they have for you.

You will need a valid passport to travel abroad. Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond the date of travel. To participate in ERAU Project GO programs in 2025, your passport cannot expire before December 2025.
