Next Gen

The Federal Aviation Administration has contracted Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University to operate the Next Generation Air Transportation System, or NextGen. NextGen is a Federal Aviation Administration initiative to modernize the nation’s antiquated air traffic control systems to make air travel safer, more efficient and more economical.

NextGen integrates existing technologies, policies and procedures with newly developed ones to achieve the goals of reducing delays, savings fuel and lowering aircraft exhaust emissions.

Located next the Daytona Beach International Airport, NextGen is a multi-agency undertaking slated to continue through 2025 and beyond.

The success of NextGen relies on industry collaboration to share expertise, National Airspace System (NAS) technologies and a myriad of other resources.
