Lt. Dave Hunt, U.S. Navy (Ret.), serves as an associate professor of the Practice and program coordinator for the B.S. in Pilot Operations program. He joined the university in 2011 as an adjunct instructor at the San Diego Campus and later served as Director of Academics at the Camp Pendleton site.
A dedicated Embry-Riddle alumnus, Lt. Hunt holds four degrees from the university: a B.S. in Professional Aeronautics (1997), an M.S. in Aeronautical Science (1998), an MBA in Aviation (1998) and an M.S. in Project Management (2015).
Lt. Hunt enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1991 and completed extensive avionics training before his first operational assignment with Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron Light 37 (SH-60B) at NAS Barber Point, Hawaii. During this tour, he deployed to the Persian Gulf aboard USS Port Royal (CG-73) in support of Operation Southern Watch and qualified as an Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist.
Commissioned as an Aerospace Maintenance Duty Officer in 2000, Lt. Hunt served in a variety of leadership roles across multiple commands, including VAQ-128 (EA-6B), the Naval Air Technical Data and Engineering Service Command (NATEC), USS John F. Kennedy (CV-67), and HSL-43 (SH-60B). He also served as Continuous Process Improvement Officer at Commander, Helicopter Maritime Strike Wing, U.S. Pacific Fleet, where he led Lean Six Sigma initiatives across eight squadrons.
Lt. Hunt holds Six Sigma Green and Black Belt certifications from Villanova University and is DAWIA-certified in Life-Cycle Logistics and Production/Quality/Manufacturing. Over his 20-year Navy career, he earned two Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals, four Achievement Medals and numerous campaign and service awards.
