Scholarships are funds awarded to students based on academic achievement, leadership, talents, community involvement and other accomplishments, both inside and outside the classroom.
Scholarships do not need to be repaid. That's money toward your education that stays with you.
Because deadlines vary, it’s important to review requirements carefully and apply as early as possible.
Complete the FAFSA
Completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is one of the most important steps in the scholarship process.
- The FAFSA helps determine what types of financial aid you may qualify for.
- Some scholarships are need-based and require a completed FAFSA.
- You must submit a FAFSA each year you are enrolled in college to remain eligible for many types of aid.
Filing early can increase your opportunities for funding.

Scholarships are financial awards given to a variety of students based on their abilities inside and outside of the classroom. The best part about scholarships is they do not have to be repaid. Scholarship deadlines may vary, so apply early.

Institutional-Funded Scholarships
Newly admitted students are automatically considered for institutionally funded scholarships (IFS) based on the merit of their admission application (GPA, SAT/ACT test scores, class rank). No separate application is required.
Selected students are notified by mail shortly after receiving their admission acceptance, and the scholarship will appear on your Financial Aid Offer.
Donor Scholarships
Embry Riddle students can apply for Donor Scholarships also known as endowed and term scholarships throughout the year through ERNIE.
These funds are generously donated to help students pay for their education. Completing the application does not guarantee you will receive a scholarship. If you are selected for a scholarship, it will be paid in the Fall and Spring semesters of the following academic year.
Scholarship award amounts vary from $500 to $20,000. Scholarship criteria also vary. Some are specific, and others are general. Only fields marked with an asterisk on the application are required, but please fill out as much information as you can to increase your eligibility for one or more of the scholarships.
Donor-Funded Scholarships are not automatically renewable. You must reapply each academic year. Only fields marked with an asterisk on the application are required, but please provide as much information as possible to increase your chances of being selected.
Don't have leadership, honors or community activities? Apply anyway. Some scholarships do not require extracurricular activities. You can't win if you're not in!
External Scholarships
To assist our incoming and current students, a general list of scholarships is available below under "All Majors," as well as scholarships by specific area of interest or criteria. You are not limited to the scholarships listed on our site — use the "Search Engine" section to search for any scholarship for which you may qualify.
You can be awarded up to your cost of attendance, so apply for as many as possible. If you receive an external scholarship, the funds should be sent directly to the Financial Aid Office and applied to your account.
Some scholarships require a written essay. It is best to create a general draft and edit that copy for each individual scholarship.

It's important to note that many scholarships require students to maintain a minimum GPA in order to remain eligible. Changing majors, dropping classes and other factors can also affect your scholarships, so be sure to understand the conditions of your awards.
