Dr. John Kleber is an assistant professor of Human Factors at Embry-Riddle. He teaches undergraduate courses in human factors, human performance and system design while mentoring undergraduate students in human factors research.
Dr. Kleber earned his Ph.D. in Human Factors Psychology from Embry-Riddle, where his research focused on aviation decision-making and training. Prior to joining the faculty, he conducted research in aviation human factors, applied cognition and training science, with a particular emphasis on aviation weather-related training and pilot decision-making. He is also an FAA-certificated private pilot, bringing practical aviation experience to both his teaching and research.
Dr. Kleber's research examines how people learn, make decisions and develop expertise in safety-critical environments to improve safety, training, and human performance through the application of human factors principles. His research spans aviation decision-making, training effectiveness, simulation-based research and human-centered system design. His research employs both quantitative and qualitative methods, including human-in-the-loop simulation, survey research, experimental studies and focus groups to investigate challenges affecting pilot performance and safety. His goal is to develop evidence-based solutions that improve training, system design and operational decision-making while supporting the safe integration of emerging technologies.
Dr. Kleber is an active member of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society (HFES), where he serves as Vice Chair of the Training Technical Group, having previously served as Electronic Communications Chair. He is committed to mentoring undergraduate researchers and integrating research with teaching by providing students with opportunities to participate in applied human factors research while preparing them for careers in industry, government and graduate education.
