Overview

Dr. Taan ElAli is a professor of electrical engineering and engineering program coordinator in the College of Aviation at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. His expertise includes dynamic systems, signal processing, engineering education, curriculum development, assessment and accreditation.

Before joining Embry-Riddle, ElAli served as chair and founding faculty member of the Department of Electrical Engineering at King Faisal University in Saudi Arabia. He also chaired the college curriculum committee and directed the College of Engineering's Quality Assurance Office, where he developed the institution's comprehensive academic quality assurance plan approved by the Ministry of Higher Education.

With more than 30 years of experience in higher education, ElAli has contributed to advancements in engineering education through curriculum innovation, instructional design and research. His work includes the development of a novel approach to dynamic system identification and the redesign of core electrical engineering coursework to improve student learning. These efforts led to the publication of several widely adopted textbooks, including Continuous Signals and Systems with MATLAB and Discrete Systems and Digital Signal Processing with MATLAB. The third editions of both textbooks were published in 2021 and are used by universities across the United States.

ElAli is the author or co-author of 13 books and textbooks and has published numerous journal articles, conference papers and book chapters in the areas of dynamic systems, signal processing and engineering education. He has also contributed chapters to The Engineering Handbook and The Electrical Engineering Handbook.

A Fulbright Scholar, ElAli is a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), recognizing his professional accomplishments and contributions to the engineering community.
