Dr. Thomas Yang earned a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Central Florida and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Zhejiang University, China, where he was a UT Starcom Scholar and a member of the Chu Kochen Honors College. He joined Embry-Riddle as an assistant professor of Electrical Engineering in 2005 and was promoted to associate professor in 2009 and professor in 2016. He also serves as a Graduate Faculty Scholar at the University of Central Florida.
Dr. Yang's research focuses on distributed multi-agent systems, machine learning, wireless communications, and signal processing. His work has been supported through appointments as a National Research Council Senior Research Associate sponsored by the Air Force Office of Scientific Research and as a visiting faculty researcher at the Air Force Research Laboratory Information Directorate. He also served on the Fulbright Specialist Roster from 2023 to 2026.
His honors include the Embry-Riddle Abas Sivjee Outstanding Researcher of the Year Award, the IEEE Florida Council Outstanding Engineering Educator Award, and multiple Best Paper Awards from international conferences. He serves as an associate editor for the journal Circuits, Systems, and Signal Processing and is a senior member of IEEE, where he previously served as chair of the IEEE Daytona Section. Dr. Yang is also a member of Eta Kappa Nu and Phi Kappa Phi.
