Backed by a $1 million Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) grant, Embry‑Riddle Aeronautical University Presidential Fellow Dr. Barbara Holder (center) is working to develop more effective training programs that integrate pilots’ technical skills, such as operating aircraft controls, and non-technical skills, like decision-making and other skills traditionally called Crew Resource Management (CRM). Dr. David A. Esser (right), a professor in the Department of Aeronautical Science, and Aviation Ph.D. student Hui (Angel) Wang (left), are also working with Holder on the project. Students (L-R) Spoorti Nanjamma, Hannah Lyons and Cecilia Zoutewelle shared a poster about the effects of mild hypoxia on spatial disorientation, a usually fatal consequence of unusual gravitational forces in flight. The research, supervised by faculty member John French, also included students Amanda Dhanpaul, Haley Picciolo, Kiernan McNamara, Shenya Patrice, Ezra O’Connell and Gavin Weinheimer.
