Richard S. Stansbury

Overview

Richard S. Stansbury is an associate professor of Computer Science and Computer Engineering at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Daytona Beach Campus. He received his BS and MS degrees in Computer Engineering (2002 and 2004 respectively) and PhD in Computer Science (2007) from the University of Kansas. As a graduate research assistant, he developed autonomous ground vehicles for operation in Greenland and Antarctica. His PhD dissertation was titled “Constraint-based Task Selection and Configuration for Autonomous Mobile Robots.” 

Dr. Stansbury teaches computer science courses and previously taught the EECS capstone course. His favorite courses to teach are CS 315: Data Structures & Algorithms and CS455: Artificial Intelligence.

He serves as a research leader at ERAU as the University lead for the ASSURE FAA Center of Excellence for Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS). In this role, he serves as an administrator over ERAU's business within the Center and as a frequent research investigator for FAA sponsored grants.  His unmanned systems research includes topics of airspace integration including system requirements for urban air mobility, aviation data analysis, etc. His other areas of research involve applied artificial intelligence/machine learning and mobile robotics.
