Dr. Sylvester Dorsey III is a native of Plaquemine, Louisiana. He recently served as the deputy lead systems engineer for NASA’s Blue Origin Human Lander. In this role, he is responsible for leading the insight team on the development and project reviews of Lunar Surface Assets, EVA suits, as well as Blue Origin docking to Gateway Interface Requirements Document to one day bring man back to the moon.
Previously, Dr. Dorsey was the IAS Flight Software lead, and his responsibilities included applying system engineering practices, processes, and other investigative techniques to ensure the development of SLS software. He advised program management of the risks associated with violating design verification objectives and offered technical advice to solve the issues.
Dr. Dorsey began his career at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center in 2007 after receiving his BS in Electrical Engineering from Southern University and A&M College in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Dr. Dorsey also holds a Master of Business Administration in Project Management from Columbia Southern University in Orange Beach, Alabama as well as a Doctor of Business Administration in Management of Engineering and Technology from National University in San Diego, California. He was awarded a Group Achievement Honor Award as part of the SLS Integrated Avionics and Software team, a Special Service Award, as well as Center Director’s Accommodation. Dr. Dorsey is also a decorated Navy Veteran (2001-2005).
