The Lab for Solar-Magnetosphere-Ionosphere Research (LASMIR) is part of the Center for Space and Atmospheric Research (CSAR) and is located within the Physical Sciences Department. The lab conducts research related to theoretical, numerical and experimental space physics and space weather research.
The LASMIR hosts several numerical models for modeling the solar wind-magnetosphere-ionosphere system, an empirical statistical model, the Solar Wind and Magnetosphere Unification model (SAMU) for statistical studies of the solar wind-magnetosphere system and radiation belt and magnetosphere-ionosphere coupling models.
During the past decade, several Embry-Riddle undergraduate, master's and Ph.D. students, as well as post-doctorates and research professors, have worked in NASA, NSF and Air Force-funded LASMIR lab research projects under the supervision of lab directors Dr. Katariina Nykyri and Dr. Anatoly Streltsov.
In addition, the LASMIR is used for undergraduate, graduate and Ph.D.-level course projects in Space Physics, Advanced Space Physics and Space Plasma Physics.
