"I start my day by waking up around 4:30 a.m. for my 5:30 a.m. flight block, grabbing coffee at Starbucks and getting to Flight Ops at 5 a.m. I lilke being an early riser — it's a great start to my morning doing something I love."
Soaring the Skies
At Embry-Riddle’s Daytona Beach Campus, students complete flight training next to campus at Daytona Beach International Airport — just steps from their residence halls!
"I’m usually back from my flight block by 8 a.m. and head to get breakfast either from Chick-fil-A or the Refueling Station."
"This is a little secret... but I really like the locker rooms in the new gym, with private changing rooms. If I needed a second to lie down and was tired, I would just lie in there and take a second."
For the Early Bird or the Night Owl
Open seven days a week, 50 weeks a year and from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m., the Flight Operations Center provides students with a space to plan flights, monitor weather, give oral briefings and more.
"My favorite class right now is COM219, Intro to Speech, because it helps me build confidence in how I communicate, especially when speaking in front of others. It is also teaching me how preparation and structure can completely change how confident I feel and how effective I am as a speaker."
"I’m involved in the Aerospace, Airline and Airport Management Club (AAAM). If I don’t pursue a career as a pilot, I’m really interested in airport logistics as a backup. I like understanding how things work and perfecting the process. I’m also hoping to add a minor in airline operations or something similar."
Preparing for the Future
AAAM provides students with professional development opportunities, including networking with industry professionals, tours of airline and aerospace company facilities and more.
"I like to connect with friends in the evenings, usually after club meetings. Being from a beach town, I really like going to the beach, and my friends and I especially enjoy night fishing!"
