Career Highlights
Mihhail Berezovski is a tenured Associate Professor of Mathematical Sciences, Director of Undergraduate Research, and Program Coordinator for the B.S. in Data Science at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. He is recognized as a transformative leader in undergraduate research, applied data science, and cross-disciplinary collaboration, driving unprecedented growth in research participation, institutional engagement, and student success across the university.
Under Dr. Berezovski’s leadership, undergraduate research at ERAU has experienced record-breaking expansion, with thousands of students annually participating in research programs, conferences, funding initiatives, and scholarly dissemination activities. His evidence-based, data-driven leadership approach has focused on scalable, high-impact programs that combine broad student access with strong support for high-quality research experiences. His engagement with philanthropic partners has further expanded funding opportunities and supported high-impact initiatives.
He holds a B.S. in Computer Science and an M.S. and Ph.D. in Engineering Physics from Tallinn University of Technology, Estonia, and he conducted his post-doctoral work at Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Massachusetts.
Forging Interdisciplinary Collaborations
Dr. Berezovski has advanced interdisciplinary collaborations across numerous ERAU departments and Centers of Excellence, including aviation safety, human factors, engineering, artificial intelligence, and national security initiatives. He has established long-term partnerships with organizations such as the Nevada National Security Site, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, Flexjet, and other industry and government partners, creating sustained opportunities for student research and experiential learning.
In 2021, the National Science Foundation awarded Dr. Berezovski a $362,000 Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) grant to establish a national undergraduate research program in data-enabled industrial mathematics at ERAU. The program connected students from across the United States with real-world research challenges provided by business, industry, and government partners. He has also secured and contributed to projects supported by the Federal Aviation Administration, U.S. Department of Homeland Security, and the Mathematical Association of America.
Over the course of his career, Dr. Berezovski has personally mentored more than 200 undergraduate students through over 100 major research projects involving students from 26 universities. These efforts have resulted in publications, keynote presentations, and more than 150 student presentations at national conferences. Many of his students have
continued into graduate education or careers with leading organizations including Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, Goldman Sachs, Microsoft, Google, Amazon, and other major employers.
Supporting Students and Faculty
Dr. Berezovski’s contributions to teaching, mentorship, and leadership have been recognized through multiple honors, including the ERAU COAS Dean’s Award for Leadership and Innovation (2022), ERAU Faculty Mentor of the Year Award (2022), ERAU COAS Award for Undergraduate Student Mentorship (2023), and the 2024 Faculty Mentor Award from the Mathematical, Computing, and Statistical Sciences Division of the Council on Undergraduate Research.
Beyond research and administration, Berezovski calls teaching the greatest and most fulfilling experience of his life. He infuses his classroom with enthusiasm and excitement and aims to help all his students recognize their talents and potential.
