Andrew Bustard

Overview

Dr. Andrew Bustard is an assistant professor in the Department of Aerospace Engineering. He earned a Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Notre Dame in 2025 and a Bachelor of Applied Science in Engineering Science from the University of Toronto in 2019.

Dr. Bustard’s research focuses on hypersonic aerodynamics and propulsion, with an emphasis on extending the operational capabilities of supersonic-combustion ramjets (scramjets). His work utilizes advanced experimental techniques, including pressure-sensitive paint and infrared thermography, to capture high-resolution surface measurements that provide insights beyond those available through conventional instrumentation. He has authored and co-authored more than 15 journal articles and conference papers on hypersonic inlet design, scramjet unstart and shock-wave/boundary-layer interactions.

His additional research interests include boundary-layer transition, hypersonic ground-test facility development and flow control. He is particularly interested in advancing high-enthalpy impulse testing capabilities and establishing next-generation hypersonic research infrastructure at Embry-Riddle.
