Marwa M.H. El-Sayed

Overview

Dr. El-Sayed is an associate professor of environmental engineering in the Department of Civil Engineering and serves as director of the Sustainability and Environmental Engineering Laboratory (SEEL) and its outdoor sampling facility, the Atmospheric Interdisciplinary Research (AIR) Facility. Her research focuses on understanding the sources, transformation and impacts of atmospheric pollutants to better quantify how human activities influence air quality, climate change and public health. Her work supports informed policy decisions through advanced atmospheric measurements and environmental analysis. She has authored more than a dozen peer-reviewed publications and has presented her research at numerous national and international conferences.

Dr. El-Sayed earned a Ph.D. in Chemical, Biochemical and Environmental Engineering from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, where her research examined atmospheric aerosols and air pollution across the eastern United States. She also holds a Master of Philosophy in Engineering for Sustainable Development from the University of Cambridge and both M.S. and B.S. degrees in Chemical Engineering, with honors, from Cairo University in Egypt.

Before joining Embry-Riddle, Dr. El-Sayed completed a postdoctoral fellowship in the Department of Atmospheric Science at Colorado State University, leading field studies investigating air quality across the western United States. Earlier in her career, she was a research fellow at Egypt's National Research Centre, where she applied cleaner production principles to industrial processes. She also worked as an environmental consultant on projects throughout the Middle East and Europe, providing expertise in sustainability, environmental engineering and air quality.
