Dr. Orly Naum is an assistant professor of aeronautics. Her research focuses on aviation workforce dynamics, human factors and safety, organizational performance, safety culture and the ethical and responsible use of artificial intelligence in education and professional practice.
Naum brings nearly two decades of military aviation experience in flight operations, aeronautical engineering, aviation safety, maintenance, training and organizational leadership. Before joining Embry-Riddle, she served in the U.S. Coast Guard as an aviator, instructor pilot, flight examiner, maintenance test pilot, aeronautical engineering officer and director of aircraft maintenance. Her instructional experience includes aircraft, flight simulator and classroom environments.
Naum earned a Ph.D. in Aerospace Sciences from the University of North Dakota and holds graduate and undergraduate degrees in Space Studies, Quality Systems Management and Professional Aeronautics. An experienced aviation educator and researcher, she has taught aviation safety, human factors, crew and maintenance resource management and technical aviation subjects.
Her interdisciplinary scholarship examines how people, technology, organizations and institutional systems interact to influence safety and performance in complex aviation environments.
