Sandra Boetcher

Overview

Dr. Sandra Boetcher is a professor of Mechanical Engineering and chair of the Department of Engineering Fundamentals at Embry-Riddle. She earned her Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering, Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering and Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Minnesota.

Boetcher's research focuses on thermal energy systems, with expertise in latent heat thermal energy storage, advanced manufacturing, phase-change materials, supercritical fluids and heat transfer. Her work combines numerical modeling and experimental methods to improve the performance and efficiency of next-generation thermal management and energy storage technologies.

Before joining Embry-Riddle, Boetcher was a founding faculty member in the Department of Mechanical and Energy Engineering at the University of North Texas. She also held engineering positions with Honeywell, 3M and Donaldson Company.

Boetcher has received numerous professional honors, including the ASME Dedicated Service Award, the ASHRAE E.K. Campbell Award and the ASME Heat Transfer Memorial Award. She serves as editor-in-chief of Numerical Heat Transfer Part A: Applications and as an associate editor for Carbon Capture Science and Technology, the International Journal of Heat and Fluid Flow and the ASME Journal of Heat and Mass Transfer. She is a U.S. delegate to the Assembly for International Heat Transfer Conferences, past chair of the ASME Heat Transfer Division and a Fellow of ASME.
