Anechoic Chamber

The Anechoic Chamber is part of Embry-Riddle’s Wireless Devices and Electromagnetics (WiDE) Laboratory, which advances the state of the art in wireless circuits and antennas (up to mm wave) while educating the next generation of innovators and entrepreneurs.

The ETS-Lindgren Far-Field Antenna Anechoic Chamber (12 ft × 12 ft × 24 ft) is a versatile test facility designed for a wide range of electromagnetic and wireless experiments. By default, it supports measurements up to 20 GHz, with the capability to extend up to 110 GHz through custom configurations. This chamber provides a controlled, reflection-free environment ideally suited for EMI/EMC compliance testing, antenna radiation pattern characterization, wireless payload validation, and advanced wireless communications experiments. Its size and frequency range make it an essential resource for evaluating system performance under realistic far-field conditions while minimizing external interference. The facility supports research across avionics and aerospace communications and sensing, including RADAR, satellite communications, and UAS Sense and Avoid.

Capabilities

• Far‑field antenna characterization up to 20 GHz (pattern cuts, gain, polarization, sidelobes).
• Network and spectrum measurements using Keysight PNAs and signal analyzers (lab inventory listed below).
• Materials and RF prototyping support via in‑lab additive manufacturing and PCB micromachining for rapid antenna/circuit iterations.

• Keysight 2‑Port PNA (to 67 GHz) and 4‑Port VNA (to 20 GHz) for S‑parameter measurements (note: chamber far‑field rating is 20 GHz).
• Keysight Signal Analyzer (to 26.5 GHz), FieldFox handheld (to 9 GHz).
• LPKF ProtoLaser U4 and ProtoMat S103 PCB systems; onScrypt 3Dn additive manufacturing; Alessi probe station.
