Chemistry Laboratory

Students build foundational chemistry skills through hands-on synthesis and analysis. The labs support engineering and science coursework.

The Chemistry Laboratory includes the General Chemistry Teaching Laboratory, the Chemistry Preparation Room and the Chemistry Instrument Room. The facilities are used for laboratory classes in General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry, in addition to including extensive preparation and storage of chemicals and materials for laboratory courses, and to house instruments for organic chemistry, general chemistry and faculty/student research.

• Three fume hoods containing power, water, vacuum and gas jets
• Three lab tables with sinks and gas jets
• Water and power
• Drying oven
• Safety shower
• Eyewash

General Chemistry/Organic Chemistry/Biochemistry Teaching Laboratory and Chemistry Preparation Room (STEM 215):

• Fume hood containing power, water, vacuum and gas jets
• Lab tables with sink
• Chemical storage cabinets
• Deionized water system
• Safety shower

Chemistry Instrument Room (STEM 214):

• Gas Chromotography-Mass Spectrometer (GC-MS) with Autosampler and Headspace Capability
• Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) Spectrometer
• Three Fourier-Transform Infrared (FTIR) Spectrometers
• Ultraviolet-Visible (UV-Vis) Spectrometer
• Two Rotary Evaporators
