Complex Dynamical Systems Laboratory

The Complex Dynamical Systems Lab (CDSL) is dedicated to advancing the understanding of real-world dynamical systems composed of multiple interacting components.

Our research explores the intricate dynamics of both human-made and natural systems through interdisciplinary and data-driven approaches, focusing on how local interactions shape overall system behavior.

At CDSL, our work spans a variety of domains, including biologically inspired swarms, brain connectivity networks, traffic and transportation systems.

To achieve a comprehensive understanding of complex dynamics, we integrate theoretical, experimental, and computational research, guided by three key objectives:

• Studying interactions in real-world networked systems.
• Developing data analysis techniques to uncover features of real-world interactions.
• Designing robust, bio-inspired artificial systems using analytical frameworks.

Our efforts are supported by the National Science Foundation, including the prestigious NSF CAREER award, which enables us to push the boundaries of research in complex dynamical systems.
