Instrumentation, Controls and Robotics Lab

The Instrumentation, Controls and Robotics Lab is a mixed-use space designed to support Mechanical Engineering Laboratory courses, Mechanical Engineering Robotics Senior Design projects, student research projects (undergraduate and graduate) and the Robotics Association at Embry‑Riddle (RAER) student organization. RAER is the parent organization of several student-led robotics teams at the Embry-Riddle Daytona Beach Campus. RAER Robotics Teams compete in several national and international robotics competitions across the domains of land, sea and air.

Students working in this lab gain hands-on experience designing, building, programming and testing robotics and autonomous systems.

Equipment

The lab supports rapid prototyping, embedded systems development, and robotics research and instruction, including:

• Advanced electronics instrumentation (oscilloscopes, power supplies, multimeters and soldering stations)
• Embedded and edge-computing platforms (single-board computers and mobile workstations)
• Robot actuators (DC motors, stepper motors and servo motors)
• Robot sensors (cameras, LiDAR, ultrasonic sensors, GNSS, IMUs and tactile sensors)
• Rapid prototyping equipment
• Mechanical and electrical tools for robot development and testing
• Robotic and uncrewed systems spanning ground, aerial and surface domains
• Custom laboratory testbeds and experimental setups
