Resolving Physical Conditions of Diffuse Ionized Gas throughout the Milky Way-Magellanic System
  • PI Lawrence Haffner

    CO-I Edwin Mierkiewicz

  • We use a dedicated, sensitive spectroscopic facility in Chile, the Wisconsin H-Alpha Mapper (WHAM), to study the physical conditions of the diffuse ionized gas (DIG) in the Milky Way and Magellanic System.
Rethinking Credentials for Aviation and Aerospace Sustainability: A DACUM Approach
  • PI Leila Halawi

    CO-I Wendy Kappers

    CO-I Patti Clark

  • The goal of this project was to move sustainability from where it is today, in the pre-paradigm phase, to the realms of normal science, where sustainability can be deployed to help organizations, not limited to the aviation and aerospace fields, accomplish goals such as increasing profits, reducing risk, remaining agile, and addressing common threats within their industry The proposed work did enhance the understanding of sustainability as a discipline and increased the reach of our Worldwide program. It was also a great venue to market our certificate offering along with our Master's degree.
Retrospective Detection of Valve Sticking Events in Aircraft Engines Using Historical Sensor Data
  • PI Parham Ahmady Phoulady

  • This project seeks to advance aviation safety by identifying historical valve sticking incidents within piston aircraft engines through the analysis of sensor data, thereby contributing to enhanced maintenance practices and operational reliability.
REU Site: Exploring Aerospace Research at the Intersection of Mechanics, Materials Science, and Aerospace Physiology
  • PI Foram Madiyar

    CO-I Alberto Mello

  • This Project is founded by National Science Foundation, under REU site. This project aims to educate students and promote scientific research in materials and aerospace science that encompasses not only building lighter and smarter materials for aerospace applications but also understanding the impact of the space environment on physiological and biological changes.
Review of International Mechanisms LSC
  • PI Diane Howard

  • This is a Working Group of the Legal Subcommittee of UN COPUOS that is researching the many different mechanisms used by the space community to foster cooperation, including inter alia bi-lateral and multi-lateral agreements, non-binding arrangements, principles, technical guidelines. I am participating as a subject matter expert.
Robotics Redundant Manipulation and Space Robotics
  • PI Douglas Isenberg

    CO-I Iacopo Gentilini

  • The research focus of Dr. Isenberg and Dr. Gentilini in the Robotics Laboratory revolves around the modeling and control of industrial and mobile robotics system. In particular our current effort is directed towards the investigation of novel optimization techniques for energy optimal trajectory generation in redundant manipulation systems,
Robust Automatic Speech Recognition for Aviation Applications
  • PI Jianhua Liu

    CO-I Andrew Schneider

  • The goal of this project is to develop speech recognition models that can be used in aviation contexts.

Rocket Engineering
  • PI Eric Perrell

  • A number of related projects to design, build, test, and fly high powered rockets with solid and liquid propellant propulsion systems, for professional competitions, and access to space.
Rocketry as Testing Platforms for Payloads
  • PI Pedro LLanos

    CO-I Sathya Gangadharan

  • Design, assemble and launch small rockets as testing platforms to test small payloads which are flown aboard suborbital flight vehicles. We have successfully launched Level 1, Level 2 rockets, and we are in the process of finalizing the Level 3 rocket.
Romans 12 Motivational Gifts in the Military: An Exploration of Person Job Fit, Job Performance and Job Satisfaction
  • PI Matthew Earnhardt

  • The current study extends research of Romans 12 motivational gifts and their relationship to person-job fit, job satisfaction, and job performance in the military context. A convenience sample of 72 U.S. Air Force personnel from a base in the Rocky Mountain region measured person-job fit, job satisfaction, and job performance.

S

S.T.E.M. Outreach
  • PI Yosef Allam

  • This research project is a study on the effectiveness and the affects of a STEM subject class for the three main levels of public education: Elementary, Middle, and High School.
SAE Formula Hybrid
  • PI Darris White

  • The project being completed by the Society of Automotive Engineers Formula Hybrid Team allows students to practice methods learned in the classroom while exploring new technologies popular in industry. After performing analysis on power output, the existing engine is providing more power than necessary, resulting in lower efficiency.
