Committed to enabling the safe transition to an electrified and connected world, Ocellott benefitted from an incubation period at the John Mica Engineering & Aerospace Innovation Complex (MicaPlex), and is now initiating its next stage here in Florida.

An electronic engineering company founded in 2015, Ocellott has a strong presence in Brazil with a history of serving international customers, including the United States. By specializing in the development and manufacturing of complex systems, the company offers products that serve the defense, aerospace, and testing and measurement markets.

“We are honored that Ocellott chose Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University’s Research Park as its U.S. springboard to continuing innovation and business success,” said Embry-Riddle President P. Barry Butler, Ph.D. “By establishing the Research Park in 2017, our Board of Trustees created a transformative environment where entrepreneurs from around the world and students are promoting economic progress to serve society. We look forward to working with Ocellott to further that vision.”

Regarding the company’s fresh approach, Rodrigo Junqueira, Ocellott U.S. president, said, “Our business model is agile, results-driven and focused on tackling the client’s challenges. We have a team capable of delivering a variety of engineering solutions. In the U.S., we will start with the development and manufacturing of systems electrification and voltage conversion solutions for eVTOLs, as well as with the design and manufacturing of electromagnetic compatibility test boxes.”

As a springboard for economic prosperity, business, education and community leaders in Volusia County provide resources and inspiration, which draws companies and innovators to our community.

“Embry-Riddle’s Research Park has directly created 123 high-paying jobs since 2017 while attracting more than $46 million in outside investment to Daytona Beach,” said Rodney Cruise, the university’s chief operating officer and senior vice president. “Of our two-dozen Research Park companies, Ocellott will be the fifth international business to join us. We’re eager to help Ocellott bring 20 new jobs to our community. We’re also grateful to Team Volusia, the Daytona Beach Regional Chamber of Commerce, the CEO Business Alliance and the State of Florida for their unwavering support of our efforts.”

“Volusia County has a deep bench of talented professionals, and Team Volusia EDC is inspired by team players like Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and Volusia County Government as we strive to bring an innovative company like Ocellott to our region. Along with 20 new jobs, their three-year growth plan includes an average salary of $51,400 and a total annual payroll of $1.02M,” said Team Volusia EDC President and CEO Keith Norden. “From resources like Enterprise Florida to partners like CareerSource Volusia Flagler, the cycle of economic development builds the future, from ideation and outreach to initiation and training.”

“Today is a great day for Volusia County,” said Acting Florida Secretary of Commerce and Enterprise Florida President & CEO Marc Adler. “At Enterprise Florida, we are proud to work with our partners throughout the state to bring innovative companies to our communities. As a company focused on innovation, Ocellott could not have picked a better place to expand its footprint than at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Volusia County. We are excited to see what Ocellott accomplishes in the future.”

Volusia County Manager George Recktenwald added, “This is really exciting news that capitalizes on the high-tech strengths and assets we can offer to the aerospace and defense industries right here in Volusia County. The synergy between Team Volusia, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and the MicaPlex makes this an ideal location for this project. We welcome Ocellott to the community and are optimistic that there will be even more positive economic development and job growth coming our way.”

About the John Mica Engineering and Aerospace Innovation Complex (MicaPlex)

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University’s Research Park generated $137 million of total economic impact in Florida last year — a 50% increase from numbers reported in 2019 — according to an independent study conducted by The Washington Economics Group, Inc.

The cornerstone of the Research Park, the John Mica Engineering and Aerospace Innovation Complex (MicaPlex), has directly created more than 120 high-paying jobs, with an average salary over $78,000, spread throughout 22 advanced-technology companies that inhabit the space. Those firms have already attracted more than $46 million in outside investment.

The university’s research park generates significant economic activity that supports $14 million in tax revenues for federal, state and local governments, the economic impacts study concludes. Targeting high-growth sectors, the research park also supports more than 700 jobs overall, both directly and indirectly — up nearly 40% from 2019, when 503 jobs were supported.

About Team Volusia Economic Development Corporation (Team Volusia EDC)

Team Volusia EDC is a public/private not-for-profit corporation founded in 2010 whose primary mission is to market and recruit business from outside the area to Volusia County. An autonomous entity, the organization is a valuable part of the economic development delivery system and works in partnership with state and county agencies, municipalities, chambers of commerce and other resource partners to achieve economic development goals for Volusia County.
