Talking Online Learning and Student Leadership with Alexandra Stanton

Meet Alexandra Stanton (’26), a mother, student leader and full-time mechanical assembler at Collins Aerospace who is graduating with an Associate of Science in Engineering Fundamentals this year.

Having an affinity for the aerospace industry and a family connection to the Wright brothers, Alexandra might have seemed destined for a school like Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. Ultimately, it was the flexibility and quality of its online programs that sealed the deal.

Alexandra sought a program that would allow her to continue showing up in her personal life and professional life while pursuing a career in engineering. Embry-Riddle Worldwide provided her with a clear degree path and offered multiple professional development launchpads along the way.

Since becoming the Student Council president of the School of Engineering at the Worldwide College of Aviation, Alexandra has leveraged networking opportunities and advocated for Worldwide student resources.

I enjoy so many things about Embry-Riddle, but I especially love our heritage. Through the dedication and passion of those who came before us, Embry-Riddle has grown into an institution that holds incredible influence in the aviation, space and defense industries.

What are the biggest benefits of pursuing your education online?

There are endless perks, the best one being that it is essentially “life proof.” I am a mother of two young boys, and I work full-time at Collins Aerospace.

Online learning has allowed me to pursue opportunities that would have been difficult to access if I had chosen the "traditional" campus experience. Additionally, the opportunities available to students at the Worldwide Campus are extraordinary.

As president of the Worldwide School of Engineering’s Student Council, I have engaged with industry professionals, developed my leadership skills and helped other students succeed, which has been the most rewarding part of my time here.

What do you enjoy the most about your program?

What I enjoy the most about the program is being in charge of my own learning and growth.

The rigor of the university has challenged me, expanded my skill set and pushed me to achieve more than I thought I was capable of. Embry-Riddle's online learning is not easy, nor should it be. The programs provide the right balance of challenge and support, encouraging students to develop the discipline, resilience and critical-thinking skills required to succeed in demanding industries.
